PGT Sliding & Patio Doors: The Miami Owner’s Guide

If your PGT sliding or patio door is sticking, leaking, or has a roller that’s given up, we stock the PGT-compatible hardware to fix it, and we install it in Miami homes every week. A full PGT sliding door parts replacement here typically runs $180 to $550 installed, depending on whether you need rollers, a handle set, a lock, or weatherstripping, and in many cases we can get it done the same day we look at it. If you’re in Miami and your door drags across the track, won’t latch, lets daylight through the seals, or the handle flops loose, this page will tell you exactly what you’re dealing with.

Where owners usually run into this: the door worked fine for years, then one morning it needs a hip-check to open. The handle turns but won’t catch. Water pools on the floor during a summer downpour. The bottom rollers, the locking mechanism, and the weatherstripping are the first things to fail in our salt-air climate, and when they do, the fix is rarely the whole door. It’s the part, and the part can be matched exactly.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds several sliding and patio door lines that are common in Miami, and the parts are not universal across all of them. The main lines we service are the PGT 5500 Series, the PGT 7700 Series, and the PGT WinGuard impact-rated sliding doors, which are the ones you’ll most often see in coastal-zone homes from Kendall to Coral Gables to Pinecrest. WinGuard doors carry Miami-Dade HVHZ approval, and their hardware specs differ from PGT’s standard non-impact 5500 rollers and tracks.

The fastest way to identify what you have: look for the PGT sticker on the door frame or the glass corner, usually with the series number printed on it. If the sticker is gone (sunlight fades them fast here), measure the roller wheel diameter and the track width, and bring us a photo of the handle profile. That’s usually enough to confirm the exact match. One gotcha we see often in Miami: PGT WinGuard rollers sit on a stainless steel carriage assembly that is not interchangeable with the 5500’s nylon wheel assembly. Installing the wrong roller will make a heavy impact door grind worse, not better. We only install genuine PGT-compatible hardware, and we stock the common WinGuard roller sets and handle sets on our trucks.

We also install quality aftermarket equivalents when they match or exceed the OEM spec, but for PGT doors we’re upfront: we recommend the OEM part for anything in the WinGuard line. Locks and multi-point handle sets in particular are engineered to the door’s reveal and shoot-bolt spacing, and an off-brand handle set that doesn’t seat perfectly undermines the impact rating. That’s a fact we bring up because it matters in Miami. (Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with PGT. We also stock compatible parts for CGI, CWS, and ES Windows doors.)

Signs Your PGT Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The door drags or scrapes across the track. The bottom rollers have flat-spotted or seized, and the door is now riding on the rail instead of rolling on it. Left alone, this wears the stainless track itself, and that’s a bigger repair than a roller swap.
  • The handle turns but the door won’t lock. The internal lock cylinder or the shoot bolts have worn out of alignment. On PGT multi-point handles, this usually means the gearbox inside the handle set has stripped. That’s a handle replacement, not a rekey.
  • You can see daylight through the closed door’s edge. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn, which means the door is no longer sealing against wind-driven rain. In Miami, this is how you get water on the floor during an afternoon storm and higher cooling bills year-round.
  • The door is suddenly harder to lock after a windy storm. Impact doors that take a hard hit can shift slightly in their frame, throwing the shoot bolts out of alignment with the keepers. This is a realignment job, and it’s worth checking before you force the lock and break the handle.
  • You hear a grinding or rattling sound when the door moves. Debris and salt grit work into the roller bearings and track channels over time. The rattle is your warning that a roller is about to fail completely, usually at the worst possible moment.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

PGT sliding door part replacements in Miami usually land in these ranges, installed:

  • Bottom roller set (both panels): $180 - $320
  • Handle set with lock (single point): $220 - $380
  • Multi-point handle set with shoot bolts: $320 - $550
  • Weatherstripping and seal replacement (full door): $150 - $280

The range is driven by the door series, whether the door is impact-rated (WinGuard hardware costs more), and whether the track needs cleaning or minor adjustment as part of the job. Every quote we write is a fixed line-item price, so you’ll see the part cost and the labor cost separately, and the number we quote is the number you pay. No change orders, no surprise adjustments when we open the door up. The work carries our 36500-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s Ed’s word, and his name is on the door, literally.

DIY or Call Us?

Some of this is safe to inspect yourself, and some of it is not worth the risk. You can absolutely check the track for debris, wipe down the rollers, and look for torn weatherstripping. That helps us diagnose faster when we get there. But lifting a PGT panel out of its frame is where we’d draw a line. A WinGuard sliding panel can weigh over 200 pounds, and it’s under spring tension in the roller carriage. If the door slips while you’re lifting it, it can fall on you or shatter the glass. That injury isn’t worth saving a service call, and I have seen enough dropped panels in Miami to say that plainly.

If your door is dragging, rattling, or letting water in, call us at (863) 862-5435 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll give you an honest opinion over the phone about whether it sounds like a roller, a handle set, or a seal job, and we’ll quote you a fixed price before we come out.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."
