How Winslow Windows & Doors Was Born in Miami

We didn’t start Winslow Windows & Doors in a garage or a spare bedroom. We brought it to Miami in 2011 because this city deserved better than what it was getting. Ed Winslow had spent years watching homeowners in South Florida pay premium prices for windows that fogged up within two seasons, doors that swelled shut every August, and installs that looked fine from the curb but leaked the first time a real storm rolled through. The brand already had a reputation in other markets for doing things the right way, with real accountability and parts that actually held up against salt air and hurricane season. Miami needed that. Not another sales pitch with a hard-close and a guy who disappears after the check clears. Ed opened this branch because he believed Miamians would recognize the difference between a quick sale and a job done right. Fifteen years later, that bet has held. Every single day, homeowners in places like Kendall, Hialeah, and Cutler Bay call us with the same story: someone else quoted them a number, took a deposit, and left them with windows that don’t close right. We’re here to fix that pattern, one house at a time.

Ed Winslow’s Personal Connection to the Windows & Doors Trade

Ed fell into this work the way a lot of people fall into the thing they’re meant to do: by accident, and then by obsession. He was in his early twenties, helping a homeowner across town with some repairs after a rough storm season. The house had aluminum windows from the 1970s, chalked and pitted, and the owner showed him a sliding door that hadn’t opened properly in years. Ed spent a weekend taking it apart, cleaning the track, replacing the rollers, and resetting the frame. When that door slid open without a fight, the homeowner stood there quiet for a second and then said, “That hasn’t moved since my kids were in elementary school.” Ed remembers exactly what that felt like. Not pride, really. More like the realization that something small and precise could change how a person lives in their own home. That stuck. He started learning everything he could about window engineering, frame materials, thermal performance, how glass behaves under South Florida sun, how frames respond to the moisture that never really leaves the air here. He learned from old-timers who could read a window’s age by the hardware, and from installers who had seen every shortcut in the book. The smell of new vinyl out of a shipping wrap, the weight of a properly seated impact window leaning against its frame, the particular sound a correctly sealed door makes when it latches, those details still mean something to him. He has spent more than a decade in this trade, and what gets him out of bed in the morning is knowing that a window in Miami isn’t just a window. It’s the thing between your family and a hundred-mile-an-hour gust. It’s the thing keeping your electric bill from becoming a mortgage payment in July. If he weren’t doing this, he’d probably be tinkering with something else, boats, old cars, anything with moving parts and a problem to solve. But windows and doors are where he landed, and that’s where he stays.

Meet Ed Winslow - The Person Behind Every Job

Ed Winslow is the Owner & Founder of the Miami branch of Winslow Windows & Doors. He has spent over a decade in the windows and doors trade, most of it in South Florida, where the climate punishes mediocre materials and sloppy work faster than anywhere else in the country. Ed leads this branch personally, making sure the local team shares his standards for measuring twice, sealing properly, and treating a customer’s home like they’d treat their own. He’s not a corporate technician reading from a script, and he doesn’t treat jobs like line items on a spreadsheet. He’s the guy who still walks a job site after the crew finishes, checking the flashing with his own flashlight. When he’s not working, Ed can be found fishing the flats out of Homestead or working through a Sunday crossword with a cup of cafecito. His personal rule is simple: if he wouldn’t put it in his own house, he won’t put it in yours.

Our Promise to Miami Homeowners

We price jobs honestly, the first time. You’ll get a written line-item quote before any work starts, and the number on that quote is the number you pay. No surprise change orders when the crew arrives. We use quality parts from brands tested for South Florida’s climate, like PGT and CWS, because a cheap window in Miami is a liability, not a bargain. And we stand behind every installation. If something isn’t right, you call us at (863) 862-5435 and we make it right. That’s not a slogan. It’s how Ed has run this branch since opening day in 2011. The promise matters most when something goes wrong, and that’s when we show up.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed: every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires.
  • Insured & bonded: we carry insurance and bonding because anyone entering your home should.
  • Established in Miami since 2011: this branch has been serving South Florida homeowners for over a decade.
  • Strong local reputation: built one satisfied homeowner at a time, from Aventura to Palmetto Bay.

A license means someone has proven competency and is accountable to a state board. Insurance and bonding mean you’re protected if something goes wrong. Local experience means we’ve seen how Miami’s heat, humidity, and hurricane seasons actually affect windows and doors here, not in some other climate. That combination is what you should look for in anyone working on your home.

Rooted in Miami

We work across Miami, Hialeah, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Doral, Miami Gardens, North Miami, Kendall, Cutler Bay, Aventura, Palmetto Bay, and Homestead. When a customer in Coral Gables asks how a window will hold up against their oak canopy, or a homeowner in Doral wants to know about wind codes, we know the answer because we drive those streets every week. This is where we live. This is where we work. This is home.
