CGI Impact Garage Doors: The Miami Owner’s Guide
CGI impact garage door replacement in Miami typically runs $3,800 to $7,200 installed, depending on size, track hardware, and existing opener compatibility. We stock CGI-compatible sections, springs, tracks, and LockTite hardware, and we can usually schedule the work within three to five business days. Most Miami homeowners discover a failed CGI garage door part the hard way: the door gets heavy, a spring snaps in the middle of the night, or after a storm passes, one panel is buckled just enough to let water in under the weather seal.
We’re an independent installer and service provider. We’re not affiliated with CGI corporate, which means two things: we stock what actually fails in Miami’s climate, and we won’t read you a script. Ed Winslow’s name is on the door – literally – and the company has been fixing and installing CGI doors across South Florida since 2011.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
We work on the full CGI impact garage door line: the Classic WD, Barbados, Estate, and Sierra collections, plus the heavy-gauge Miami-Dade HVHZ-rated models that show up in waterfront homes from Coconut Grove to Palm Bay. The compatability gotcha most owners don’t know: CGI uses proprietary hinge spacing on several WD-series doors going back to model year 2012. A universal garage door hinge from the hardware store won’t line up, and that’s how doors end up binding and eating cables.
To identify your CGI model, look for the silver manufacturer sticker on the inside left door edge of the bottom panel. It lists the door model, the wind load, and the Miami-Dade NOA number. Snap a photo of that sticker before you call anyone. For hardware, the choice is usually OEM versus a quality aftermarket equivalent. Our position: if the part touches the spring system or the LockTite pin reinforcement, use OEM. If it’s rollers, weather seals, or decorative exterior hardware, a good aftermarket part is fine and costs 20 to 30 percent less. We’ll tell you which is which, and we’ll show you both prices.
Signs Your CGI Impact Garage Doors Is Failing
- Door is heavy when opening manually, even after disconnecting the opener. This means the torsion springs are losing tension or one has already broken. In Miami’s humidity, springs typically last 8 to 10 years before they fatigue, not the 12 to 15 you’d see in drier climates. Salt air near the bay costs you a couple of years on top of that.
- Squealing or grinding sound that follows the door’s travel. Usually a roller bearing gone dry or a hinge pin wearing against the track. Left alone, a worn roller will sway, the door gets out of square, and then the cables start fraying against the track brackets.
- Door sits uneven in the closed position, with a visible gap at one bottom corner. That’s a cable or spring imbalance. On a wind-rated CGI door, an imbalanced panel puts stress on the LockTite hinge pin system and can shear pins during the next storm cycle.
- Visible rust blooming behind the exterior paint at the panel edges. CGI’s steel sandwich construction holds up well, but once moisture gets behind the edge lip at a scratch or a bad weather seal, the panel starts losing integrity from the inside out.
- Slack in the cables when the door is up. If one cable is loose and the other is taut, you have a broken spring on one side or a cable that has jumped the drum. Do not keep operating the door. Picture the cable whipping loose when the break happens – high-tension garage door hardware is genuinely dangerous, and this is where we always say leave it to a trained professional.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the honest pricing picture for Miami. A single replacement spring pair on a CGI double door runs $280 to $420 installed. Complete panel replacement for a two-car door, with LockTite hinges and new weather stripping, lands between $1,800 and $3,100 depending on the model. Full door replacement including new impact-rated track, reinforces bracing, and opener retiming sits in that $3,800 to $7,200 range.
| Service | Typical Miami Price Range |
|---|---|
| Torsion spring pair replacement (CGI) | $280 – $420 |
| Roller & hinge refresh (all panels) | $240 – $390 |
| Single panel replacement (impact-rated) | $700 – $1,400 |
| Two-car door full replacement | $3,800 – $7,200 |

DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the straight answer. You can safely check a few things yourself: look for the model sticker, check whether the door is balanced by pulling the red release cord and lifting manually, and inspect the weather seal at the bottom. That’s it. Do not touch the torsion springs, the cables, the bottom fixture brackets, or anything under tension. A torsion spring holds one to two thousand pounds of torque even when the door is fully up. The wrong sized winding bar slipping out of the cone has hospitalized experienced installers. This is not a weekend project.

FAQs
CGI torsion springs in the Miami area typically last 8 to 10 years, not the 12-plus you’d see in low-humidity climates. The combination of salt air, 70-percent-plus humidity, and daily door cycles in a Miami home accelerates spring fatigue. If your springs are past year eight and the door is getting heavy, get them replaced proactively before one snaps while the door is up.
If the panel is dented but the steel skin is intact and the door still passes an impact re-certification, a repair is sometimes possible. If the panel is creased, punctured, or the LockTite hinge mounts are loose, replacement is required. Miami building code is specific about this: a damaged impact-rated door with compromised panel integrity will not pass an inspection after a storm event. Call (863) 862-5435 and we’ll tell you honestly which way it goes and what each option costs.
Spring replacement runs about an hour and a half to two hours. Single panel replacement takes half a day, including hinge and weather seal work. Full door replacement takes one full day for a standard two-car garage. We bring all common CGI hardware on the truck, so we rarely need a second trip.
We stock torsion springs in the sizes CGI uses on Miami Dade HVHZ-rated doors, LockTite hinge pins, roller sets, cables, drums, and bottom weather stripping on our service trucks. Custom-painted panels and some decorative hardware are ordered per job. We also carry parts for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows doors. If we don’t have it on the van, we’ll tell you exactly when it arrives before you agree to anything.
