Mr-Glass Window Replacement: The Miami Owner’s Guide

If you own Mr-Glass windows and one of them has failed, we stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible replacement windows throughout Miami, with most jobs running between $450 and $1,200 per window installed depending on size, glass package, and frame condition. We keep common Mr-Glass replacement sashes, balances, and hardware on our trucks, so a service call in Miami usually ends with a fixed window the same day. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a window that suddenly won’t stay up, glass that’s fogged between the panes, or a crank that spins without moving the sash. Ed Winslow has been replacing Mr-Glass windows in Miami since before half the high-rises in Brickell went up, and the failure patterns here are predictable, salt air, humidity, and hurricane-season pressure changes take their toll on seals and hardware faster than any warranty chart admits.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass has produced several series over the years, and the replacement path depends on which one is in your home. The most common Mr-Glass lines we see in Miami are the 5000 and 7000 series single-hungs and horizontal sliders, along with the casement line that was popular in Kendall and Pinecrest builds from the late 1990s through the mid-2010s. Here’s the gotcha most owners don’t know: Mr-Glass changed balance shoe and pivot bar designs between the 5000 and 7000 series, and parts are not interchangeable between them. If you order a replacement balance kit based only on window width, you have roughly a coin-flip chance of getting the wrong part.

To identify your model, look for a small etched code or sticker in the corner of the glass or on the sash frame. If the sticker is gone, which happens often after years of Miami sun, we can identify the series from the balance shoe style and the sash profile. For Mr-Glass specifically, we recommend OEM glass packs when the insulated glass unit has failed because Mr-Glass uses a specific spacer width and low-E coating stack that aftermarket suppliers frequently get wrong. For hardware like balances, locks, and cranks, quality aftermarket equivalents from reputable manufacturers work just as well and cost twenty to forty percent less than OEM. We’ll tell you which is which and give you the honest choice, either way, with our pricing written down before any work starts.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Condensation or fogging between the panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. In Miami’s humidity, this shows up faster than anywhere else in the country because the dew point inside the air gap gets crossed almost every morning from May through October. Once the seal goes, the argon or krypton gas escapes and the window loses its insulating value permanently.
  • Window won’t stay up or slides shut on its own. The balance system is shot. Mr-Glass 5000 series used coil balances, while the 7000 series switched to block-and-tackle, and both wear out from thousands of open-close cycles plus the grit and salt that find their way into the tracks in Miami.
  • Sash feels gritty, sticks, or requires two hands to move. The rollers and track have accumulated corrosion or debris. Near the bay in neighborhoods like Coconut Grove or Key Biscayne, we see aluminum tracks pitting from salt exposure within five to seven years.
  • Crank handle spins freely or clicks without moving the sash. The gear mechanism inside the casement operator has stripped. Mr-Glass casement operators use a plastic gear that gets brittle from UV exposure, and after ten summers of Miami sun, the teeth shear off.
  • Visible rot or soft spots on the sash frame. This applies to Mr-Glass wood-clad lines. In Miami, wood frames face constant moisture assault, and once water gets behind the cladding, the frame rots from the inside. By the time you see a soft spot, the sash usually needs full replacement rather than repair.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Miami, Mr-Glass window replacement pricing breaks down into three tiers. A basic sash replacement with new balances runs $450 to $650 per window installed. A full insulated glass unit replacement with OEM Mr-Glass glass runs $600 to $900 per unit depending on size and glass options. A complete window replacement with new frame, sash, and glass runs $800 to $1,200 per window. Every quote from us includes parts, labor, haul-away of the old unit, and interior trim touch-up if removal requires it. We don’t play the low-ball estimate game, and we’ve never sent a change order on a replacement job in over a decade of Miami work.

Every Mr-Glass replacement we install carries our workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s glass warranty. If it’s not done right, we come back. That’s the 36500-Day Done Right Promise, and Ed Winslow’s name is on the door, literally.

DIY or Call Us?

For some Mr-Glass issues, an owner can do a safe, useful check before picking up the phone. You can look at the balance shoe to see if it’s snapped, check for visible glass seal failure around the edges, and note whether the track is full of debris. Cleaning the track and lubricating the rollers with a dry silicone spray is safe and sometimes buys you a few more months. What we don’t recommend is attempting to replace a Mr-Glass balance system or a full sash by yourself. The balances are under serious tension, and the wrong release can send a metal spring flying. We’ve also seen DIY sash replacements where the new sash was ordered a quarter-inch off and the owner spent more on return shipping than our entire service call would have cost. If the window is fogged, out of balance, or refusing to lock, call (863) 862-5435 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether it’s a repair or a replacement, no trip charge if you’re inside our home county.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."
