CWS Door Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

If you own a CWS door in Miami and a part has failed, here’s what you need to know: we install CWS-compatible door components and complete door units throughout Miami-Dade, with most single-panel or hardware replacements running between $225 and $650 installed. We keep the most common CWS-compatible parts on our trucks and can typically have a technician at your door within one business day. Most Miami homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a door that suddenly won’t latch before a storm, a roller that grinds, or a frame that’s gone soft from years of salt air and humidity working their way in.

Winslow Windows & Doors is an independent installer and service provider. We’re not affiliated with CWS, but we’ve worked on enough CWS doors across South Florida to know their quirks, their part compatibility, and what fails first in Miami’s climate. We also stock parts for PGT, CGI, and ES Windows doors, which helps when a homeowner isn’t sure who made their original unit.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS door lines vary by era and impact rating, and the part you need depends on which series you have. The biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Miami: older pre-2012 CWS doors often use a different hinge geometry than the newer impact-rated series, which means a hinge that looks identical won’t sit flush if you grab it from a generic supplier. Always check the sticker on the door slab edge or the top rail. It will list the series code, glass type, and manufacturing date. If the sticker is gone, pull one hinge and measure it against the replacements before ordering anything.

For most CWS doors sold in South Florida, OEM hardware is worth the extra cost on moving parts like rollers, hinges, and multipoint lock assemblies. These are engineered to the door’s weight and impact cycle testing. For static trim components like weatherstripping, sweeps, and threshold caps, quality aftermarket equivalents with the same profile dimensions work fine and cost less. We carry both on the truck so you’re not stuck waiting on a shipment from Texas.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing

  • The door drags or jams halfway through the swing. On Miami homes, this is usually frame settlement from the soil shifts we get between wet and dry seasons. It might be repairable with hinge adjustment, or it might mean a frame that needs resetting.
  • You can see daylight or feel air moving around the seal. The weatherstripping on CWS doors has a real lifespan in our humidity, usually 8 to 12 years before it compresses. Losing that seal drives up your cooling bill and lets the mosquitoes in.
  • The multipoint lock catches on one point but not the others. This is a common CWS issue we see in Miami. Salt air corrodes the lock bars and roller pins faster than inland areas. If one point binds, the whole mechanism is working against itself.
  • Hinges squeak or show rust blooms at the pin. Surface rust isn’t the end of the world, but if the pin is swollen, the hinge is done. Lubricating a rusted CWS hinge buys you weeks, not years.
  • The door sags and the reveal at the top is uneven. That tells us the frame or the hinge reinforcement is fatigued. On impact-rated CWS doors, the extra weight makes this happen faster when hinges are undersized or worn.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what CWS door installation and part replacement typically runs in Miami, installed:

  • Weatherstripping, sweeps, and threshold caps: $90 - $180
  • Hinge replacement (set of 3, OEM): $180 - $320
  • Multipoint lock assembly replacement: $280 - $520
  • Roller replacement (sliding door, per panel): $160 - $300
  • Full panel hardware overhaul with frame adjustment: $450 - $800
  • Complete CWS door replacement (standard single entry): $1,800 - $3,400

What drives the price: whether we’re saving the existing frame or replacing it, how much corrosion has built up in the hardware, and which CWS series you have. Every quote includes the part, labor, disposal of the old component, and a written line-item price before we start. If the work isn’t done right, you don’t pay for the fix. That’s our 36500-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right. No expiration. No fine print.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things are safe to check yourself. You can tighten a loose hinge screw. You can clean the track on a CWS slider with a dry brush. You can look at your weatherstripping with the door closed and see if it’s flattened. That’s diagnosis, and it helps us quote faster when you call.

What we don’t recommend: pulling the door off its hinges to replace hardware. A full CWS impact-rated door can weigh over 150 pounds. If it drops, you’re looking at a broken foot, a broken slab, or both. The same goes for multipoint lock extraction. Those assemblies are under spring tension and buried inside the door edge. One wrong move, and the door’s edge channel is gouged beyond repair. My name is on the door, literally, and on every job we do. I’d rather tell you to call us for the dangerous stuff than read about a neighbor getting hurt trying to save $200.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."
